The music industry has changed radically in the last 20 years and nobody knows that better than our team of former major label executives, Grammy-award winning Artists and legends of the music business.  Our team has (literally) hundreds of years in the music business and (literally) hundreds of millions in revenues to our credit…but the game has changed.  Because of the new music business paradigm, we created Fame Wizard® to bring DIY Artists up to speed and demystify the modern music business.  The days of golden gate-keepers and small groups of people who held the fate of musicians in their hands are long gone…and we couldn’t be more excited about what that means for today’s aspiring musicians.

Paul Atkinson

Paul has been playing music since the age of twelve. For over a decade he managed and marketed his own independent music career – successfully booking and promoting hundreds of shows, recording and distributing four independent albums, and effectively navigating and utilizing the ever-expanding online marketplace. He has over 100 original songs, a compelling live performance, and an ever-increasing number of dedicated fans and supporters.

Additionally, Paul has spent many years in sales, marketing, and executive management. Paul is partner and CEO of Southend Building Products, which specializes in reclaimed, “green” building materials. Paul’s visionary insight and work ethic have dramatically expanded the company’s sales, customer base, and national presence. (…back)

Tony Bongiovi

Tony Bongiovi is a recognized talent in the music industry both for his technical skills and for his ability to produce blockbuster records.  Foremost is his acknowledged leadership in sound system design and engineering where he may be best known for designing the incredibly popular and successful Power Station Studios.

As a record producer he has produced over 50 gold and platinum records. Tony Bongiovi’s Star Wars recording was the largest selling instrumental disco record of all time. In fact, John Williams, the noted conductor and composer of Star Wars, received more writer’s royalties from Tony’s record than he did from his recording of the original movie soundtrack when Star Wars was number one.

Tony Bongiovi has worked with and consulted for Media Sound, Motown, CBS Television, Turner Broadcasting, Polygram, Warner Brothers, Sony BMG and RCA.  Additionally, Tony has worked with legendary musicians like Diana Ross, Carly Simon, Stevie Wonder, Van Morrison, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Temptations, Bruce Springsteen, Kool & The Gang, Jerry Garcia, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Jimi Hendrix, Ozzy Osbourne, The Ramones, Talking Heads and many, many more.  Tony is a true legend in the music business that has taken a very proactive role in helping to develop today’s aspiring Artists.(…back)

David Braun (1931 – 2013)

David A. Braun, prior to retiring was a leading attorney in the entertainment practice of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld in Los Angeles, one of the largest law firms in the US, with offices worldwide.  Mr. Braun’s practice included the representation of composers, recording artists, and publishing companies.

Mr. Braun was formerly chief executive officer of PolyGram Records in the United States, and served as president of the New York Chapter of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He had a decades-long involvement in the careers of Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Jose Feliciano, Manhattan Transfer, George Harrison, Michael Jackson, Brian Wilson and Diana Ross, among others.

Mr. Braun was an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California, lecturing on the entertainment industry. He also taught a course on the music business at the University of California at Los Angeles. He is the author of “Phonograph Record Industry,” a monograph for the New York State Bar Association. He served on the board of visitors of both Columbia College and Columbia Law School, and was a member of the New York Bar and California Bars.

David was the originator of many of the practices used today in the music field, in the areas of music rights, distribution management and licensing. He served as an Ambassador to Greenstar, a company that is building a worldwide gallery of music and arts from traditional cultures.(…back)

Orion Brutoco

Those who have met Orion will tell you he has a HUGE heart for helping others and an equally strong love for music.  The original inspiration for Fame Wizard® came from Orion’s desire to “make it” and his desire to see his peers “make it” in the music industry. He worked side by side with several of the top entrepreneurial minds of today to develop the original concept now incorporated into Fame Wizard®.

Orion’s passion for music was clear at an early age. For his eighth birthday his parents enrolled him in professional drum lessons. He continued these lessons and took up guitar, bass, harmonica, and singing. His love for music grew and so did his desire to share it with the world.

His drive to promote music was so strong that during middle school he helped develop the Middle/High school music program which included building a full digital recording studio. He attended a high school with a strong music program and joined the schools jazz band. The jazz band toured and released two albums. Upon graduating high school he played drums for a variety of bands including Vizionz that was hailed “Best New Generation Hard Rock Band of Southern California” by Rock City News. After leaving this band, he worked in a recording studio as an engineer for a year.

In addition to Fame Wizard®, Orion is actively pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Advertising & Public Relations: Strategic Communications at Hawaii Pacific University. Aside from playing and managing his own band, his business experience involves an active role in the start up, sales and marketing for a successful organic food company.(…back)

Rinaldo S. Brutoco, J.D.

A leading international executive, writer and keynote speaker for over 30 years, Rinaldo Brutoco is widely recognized as a practical visionary, change agent and futurist. Rinaldo uniquely combines theory and practice to assist executives and organizations in adapting to change with “breakthrough” ideas.

An expert in emerging technologies and industries, Rinaldo was a Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of the nation’s first pay cable television operation, CHANNEL 100, the pay-cable division of Optical Systems Corporation. He was also the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of one of the first companies to offer over-the-air television transmissions of major motion pictures, Universal Subscription Television. While CEO at Universal Subscription Television, Rinaldo oversaw an equity infusion of $30 million, launching broadcast television operations in Boston, New York, San Francisco and other major markets, achieving gross annualized revenues of $35 million in its first three years. For 13 years, he also served as the Chairman of Logical Data Management, which pioneered distributed data processing and high-speed data transfers.

An accomplished futurist, Rinaldo has served on the board of The Men’s Wearhouse, a $2-billion-dollar retail sales New York Stock Exchange company, for over a decade from its initial IPO to the present time. During that same time period, he was CEO and Chairman of the Red Rose Collection, which was named for three consecutive years to Inc. magazine’s 500 fastest-growing privately held companies. Among many other distinctions, Red Rose served, for the last twelve years of Mother Teresa’s life, as the sole distributor of her personally endorsed biographical motion picture.

Savvy in both legal and financial transactions, Rinaldo pioneered the concept of Direct Public Offering of stock by selling shares of stock directly to his customers. He also achieved significant legal prominence when, at the age of 25, he became the youngest attorney to argue before the California Supreme Court and won what at the time was the largest class action lawsuit in the history of the United States.

In 1987 he founded, and currently serves as President of, the World Business Academy, a collaborative network of mindful individuals collectively exploring the leading edge of business and a pre-eminent publisher of new paradigm business literature.

He has also served on numerous other non-profit boards, including The Gorbachev Foundation, Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, State of the World Forum, the Center for Earth Concerns, Omega Point Institute, the National Peace Alliance, the National Peace Academy, and the Brutoco Family Foundation, adding to his ability to transform companies through a multi-disciplinary approach.

He is the co-author of Freedom From Mid-East Oil, and a college textbook on nuclear energy, Profiles in Power, published by Simon & Schuster in 1997. He also has been the contributor to, or principal author resource for, several other books including Winning the Innovation Game and New Paradigms in Business. He has also been the author of numerous articles in various publications and a featured speaker at senior-level executive meetings throughout the world for more than two decades.

On moving to Ojai, California, Rinaldo formed The ShangriLa Consulting Group where he consults, as principal, on the leading edge of business, international micro and macro economics, internet and technology architecture strategies, relationship building, enterprise stakeholdership, servant leadership, technology, finance and future studies. Rinaldo was also Chairman of the Ojai Film Festival.

He is also a family man who raised 3 daughters and a son. It is the dream of his son to make it in the music industry. Rinaldo has founded and invested in Fame Wizard® with the goal of helping ALL emerging Artists.

Rinaldo obtained a degree with highest honors in Economics and Philosophy in 1968 from Santa Clara University and a Juris Doctorate, Order of the Coif, from UCLA School of Law in 1971.(…back)

Savina Ciaramella

Savina Ciaramella has 20 years of experience in the music industry from negotiations to production. Her career began in 1990 at Walt Disney Records in the A&R Department where she served as the Director of A&R Administration. She supervised recording sessions, production budgets, talent negotiations and union matters while creating and developing award-winning records, such as Disney’s Lullaby Album series and The Best of Country Sing the Best of Disney featuring Nashville’s top talent. She also contributed to many other successful soundtracks and records, which garnered her 14 RIAA certified Gold, Platinum and Diamond Awards. After departing Disney in 2004, she managed established composers, songwriters and producers in the videogame, film, television and recording industries.

In January of 2007, Savina was appointed by the President of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) to the executive team of the union. She quickly identified a growth opportunity and expanded the video game department by ten-fold in the first year. As the Director within the Electronic Media Services Division, she administered national agreements including Motion Picture/TV Film, Student/Festival Film, Videogame, New Media, and Theme Park. She also served as the AFM spokesperson at award shows and was a frequent panelist at annual conferences representing 90,000 professional musicians and 240 local offices across the U.S. and Canada. With her innovative concepts, and strong PR, marketing and negotiation skills, she cultivated relationships with the top composers, film studios and videogame companies worldwide, advancing the objectives of the Federation.

Savina’s diverse background, extensive contacts and solution-oriented approach have enabled her to create synergistic opportunities for Artists, musicians, composers, publishers and producers alike.(…back)

Tony Delmercado

Tony Delmercado is a persistently optimistic renaissance man who is passionate about encouraging Artists to follow their dreams as he has done his entire life. After some small commercial musical success while attending the University of Wisconsin, Tony moved to Boston, MA to study architecture and travel the East Coast. While playing music, studying and working at a successful firm in Boston, Tony was able to travel through Europe, Cuba, Australia and much of North and South America before making the move to California. Tony has recruited, interviewed and mentored tens of thousands of people from all walks of life.  Tony’s experience in developing people coupled with an entrepreneurial mindset and knack for operations, helps him encourage Fame Wizard® Artists to envision, plan and execute their dreams in the music business. Tony is a passionate, proven and motivating leader that is proud to be a part of the evolution of the recorded music business.

Brent Fischer

With 30 years experience in the Music Industry as an arranger, musician, conductor, producer, orchestra manager, consultant, lecturer, teacher, music book editor and concert tour organizer, Brent Fischer has a unique perspective on how artistic creativity and business interact. He has been entrusted many times by all major and many independent Record and Film Companies to handle the responsibilities of overseeing productions including budget projections, integrating A&R/producers/writers/artists into all pertinent processes, hiring/firing temporary staff and vendors, managing recording sessions, filing contracts and ensuring that all parties to an agreement fulfill their obligations. Brent Fischer is known for taking on and bringing in huge projects on time and within the budget.

Traveling extensively and doing business in many countries has given Fischer a broad view of the role of the artist in contemporary society. Most of his biggest accomplishments though have been in his native Los Angeles working with Pop, R&B and Jazz Icons. The name Brent Fischer can be found on more than 30 million CDs worldwide for artists such as Michael Jackson, Usher, Al Jarreau, Eric Benet, Natalie Cole, Toni Braxton, Dru Hill, Brandy, Dianne Reeves, Robert Palmer, Vanessa Williams, Kirk Franklin and Prince.(…back)

Ghezzi

Ghezzi’s life is a series of leaps and bounds through athletics and the arts – quite literally. Prior to her more current forays into the worlds of music and artist career development at Fame Wizard®, she was a champion Junior Olympic swimmer and diver — and that was before she attended The NC School of the Arts at age 11. She has lived in Italy twice as a professional ballerina and has danced with the Pennsylvania Ballet, School of American Ballet (NYC), and the Joffrey Ballet (NYC) among countless others. She has also choreographed, directed and taught ballet for years. Ghezzi has produced International dance concerts and performed all over the world. She studied business at Indiana University with a focus on marketing and advertising and fine tuned those skills at Brand Fuel Promotions. She worked extensively with Aids Alliance Carolina as a fundraiser and her band performed for World Aids Day for many years. Ghezzi was commission by The Aids Alliance to write the signature yearly song performed at World Aids Day.

Ghezzi debuted her first recording in April 1997, “Taking No Prisoners”, a mix of r&b, blues, originals and soulful rock. Her 2nd recording, “Clearing” was released in July 1999 to critical acclaim. In 2010 her song, “Don’t Tempt Me” stayed at number 1 on WUMD 89.3 FM for 4 months. Legendary DJ Kitty Kinnin of 100.7 FM The River on Clear Channel Radio, continues to spin Ghezzi’s discs on her popular Sunday Brunch show. She has worked with Grammy Nominated producer, John Custer, and shared the stage with Legendary musicians such as Bay Area guitarist Steve Kimock and guitarist Scott Sawyer.

There is a strong family history of music: her father was a professional jazz guitarist, her mother a professional singer. Ghezzi has been private coaching vocalists/musicians for over a decade.

Since the age of seven, Ghezzi has performed on stages all over the world, winning scholarships & awards for her electrifying work, including a Billboard top 100 award. She brings her abilities to command and excite audiences to her powerful concerts as a vocalist.(…back)

Elliot Goldman

Mr. Goldman was, most recently, Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of 42West LLC, a privately held, multi divisional public relations firm specializing in the entertainment and communications fields. The company was founded in 2005 by a client of Mr Goldman’s, Leslee Dart, former President of PMK a film industry public relations firm acquired by IPG/McCann Erickson in the late 90s. Mr. Goldman structured and organized the company at its founding and became responsible for all its financial, business affairs, administrative and personnel activities shortly after its formation. Starting as a two-person office in a single room, 42West is now a three divisional operation with over eighty employees and floor wide offices in NY and LA.

Prior to being recruited to 42West, Mr. Goldman was CFO of Tour GCX, a privately held company specializing in the packaging of golf tee times for individuals at private golf clubs in the tri state region. The company was founded by one of Mr. Goldman’s marketing clients who asked him to help structure and get the new company off the ground. Tour GCX continues in operation.

Before Tour GCX, Mr. Goldman was President and COO of ConnectivCorp, a publicly held internet company specializing in the medical field. That company was founded in 2000 by Rob Ellin,, an investment banking client of Mr. Goldman’s. Here, again, he was asked to help structure and build the company’s business and financial side. While ConnectivCorp was not able to survive the technology downturn of 2000 – 2002, it was maintained as a public entity and was ultimately merged with a video game company.

All of these business projects were developments growing out of Mr. Goldman’s long and successful career in the music industry (1967-1987-details below) and the active development of his own consulting firm (The Elliot Goldman Group Ltd) in 1987. The firm specialized in organizational and operational assistance to independent companies in the music industry ranging from structuring and organizing start-up companies and preparing appropriate business plans to organizing and negotiating joint venture, production, distribution and merger deals. At its height, it worked with a majority of the premier independent record companies in the music industry. In his consulting capacity, Mr. Goldman also acted as an expert witness in music industry lawsuits and as an evaluator of music and record catalogs and companies. The firm also acted as consultant to several major music industry companies on organizational and operational matters relating to their financial, business affairs and administrative procedures.

Mr. Goldman’s executive and operational career in the music industry spanned three decades including his role as President and CEO of BMG Music, Senior Vice President of Warner Communications Inc. (now Time Warner), Executive Vice President and General Manager of Arista Records and Administrative Vice President of CBS Records (now Sony Music).

As President and Chief Executive Officer of BMG Music (1985-1987), Mr. Goldman led the corporate entity encompassing the worldwide music operations of RCA Records, Arista Records, RCA Red Seal and the RCA Record Club.

His stint at Warner Communications, Inc. (1982-1985) was as a member of the senior corporate management of WCI with a broad range of duties and specific responsibility for WCI’s worldwide recorded music and music publishing activities.

Mr. Goldman’s role as a founder and senior operating officer at Arista Records (1974 –1982) involved him in all areas of the company’s operations with direct responsibility for all business activities, including supervision of the company’s U.S. sales and distribution, music publishing, foreign operations and licensing, and finance.

Mr. Goldman began his music industry career at CBS Records in 1967 as Director of Business Affairs, was promoted to Vice President of Business Affairs in 1970 and appointed Administrative Vice President in 1971, a post he held until he left to join Arista Records in 1974 . At CBS Records he had direct responsibility for the domestic record group’s Business Affairs, A&R Administration and music publishing operations.

During his years in the entertainment industry, Mr. Goldman was a member of the Board of Directors of the Recording Industry Association of American (RIAA) and held a similar position with the international industry association (IFPI). He also served on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

Prior to joining the entertainment industry, Mr. Goldman pursued an active career in New York City and State government, beginning with the 1964 election campaign of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and including posts as Legislative Counsel to a New York State Senator (1965) and Executive Assistant to the New York City Rent Administrator in the administration of John Lindsay (1965-67).

Mr. Goldman is active in a number of health, education, civic and charitable organizations. He is former Co-Chairman of the Home Entertainment Division of UJA/Federation, a founding member, director and President Emeritus of the Music for Youth Foundation and a former member of the Executive Council of the T. J. Martell Foundation for Leukemia and Cancer Research.

Mr. Goldman was the 1986 recipient of the AMC Cancer Research Center’s Humanitarian of the Year award. He has served as a member of the City of Rye Board of Appeals; as Executive Vice President and member of the Executive Board of the Music and Performing Arts Lodge of B’nai B’rith and Executive Vice-President and a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees of the Community Synagogue of Rye. Michael Harmon

As a founding shareholder of Galey & Lord Inc. Mike was involved and responsible for all aspects of the business. GL grew from $250 million in sales to over $900 million by 2000. In this period, he was instrumental in acquisitions of over $500 million, completing several international joint ventures,raising equity in a public offering and borrowing money in both the private and public markets.

In addition to GL, Mike has held top management positions with other companies serving as VP, CFO and President. In these roles he accumulated in-depth expertise in all aspects of managing small and large corporations, both private and public. He has front-line experience in restructuring, financing, acquisitions and dispositions; and has dealt with international issues like joint ventures and sourcing.

As part of his international experience, he has served as a member of the Board of Directors for companies located in Canada, Mexico, Europe and the Far East, as well as those in America.

Mike’s degree in Business Administration comes from Charleston Southern University.  He is a graduate of Darden’s Executive Program.

Erik Huberman

Erik Huberman brings to our team experience and talents from multiple avenues. He has been involved in several successful start-up companies including Bander Productions, Stormwater Maintenance Company and Garlic Gold. He studied Business Management in College. He also has three years of Sales Experience in both personal sales and Real Estate Sales. Erik has also been a musician since he was four years old and still holds music as his passion. He has played with several bands and participated on the management side of the business as well. Erik was the first full time member of Fame Wizard®, starting part time to develop the concept in February of 2009, he began focusing solely on Fame Wizard® August 1st, 2009.(…back)

 

Mark Jaffe

Mark Jaffe is a music, technology and digital media executive who’s held many senior level positions within the music industry for over 15 years. He’s held corporate leadership roles in many of the top major music companies and studios, as well as successful founding and executive functions in new technology ventures and the mobile/internet space.

Former President of Walt Disney Records, Mark’s knowledge of the pop and family entertainment marketplace allowed him to skyrocket company’s revenue line from $30 million to $120 million in only five-years. He was also intimately involved in the rollout and expansion of The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid. Mark is also an inspirational humanitarian and while at Disney he spearheaded the production and recording of For Our Children; a record that featured such greats as; Bob Dylan, Carole King, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, Meryl Streep, and Brian Wilson. This record raised over three million dollars for the Pediatric AIDS Foundation. It also encouraged open dialogue about AIDS awareness between parents and children in a time where people didn’t talk about the devastating disease. For Our Children went on to be critically hailed one of the greatest children’s records of all time.

Mark was also the driving force in introducing high quality music programming for children to America with recording artists such as Raffi and grew the A&M Records children’s entertainment business from start-up to $14 million within five years. More recently, he held senior executive positions as Executive Vice President at Warner Bros., Senior VP/Product Development at Capitol/EMI and soundtrack executive at DreamWorks.

His technology management expertise was highlighted at Ecadia, a company he founded and grew that successfully developed and sold enterprise software focused upon buying decision systems technology for internet-based B2C and B2B commerce. Subsequently, he spearheaded the growth of Audit Integrity, a financial services software company that assesses the accuracy of corporate financial disclosures for accounting firms, governmental regulatory agencies, D&O insurance companies, and the investment community.

Mark received his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Communications from UCLA and his Masters of Business Administration in Marketing/Finance from the University of Southern California. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara.

He and his family enjoy travel and have been to five continents. Only Africa and Antarctica remain outstanding. In particular, Mark enjoys adventure travel and has trekked to, and stayed, in remote tribal villages in both Asia and Central America. He has trekked the”Headhunter’s Trail” in the Sarawak region of Borneo with his then 15 year old son, as well as journeyed to Everest base camp with him in Tibet. He is an active scuba diver and runner, having completed the New York marathon as well as numerous 10K races with his father and his son.

Thomas Lee

Tom Lee was elected as International President of the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada (AFM) by the Delegates at the 94th AFM Convention on June 26, 2001.

As President, Mr. Lee believed it was important for the Federation to make all efforts to increase the visibility and effectiveness of the AFM. To that end, Mr. Lee hired a public relations firm that worked directly with him to ensure the AFM took every opportunity to make the public aware of its activities on behalf of musicians everywhere. As a result, the public awareness of the AFM’s leadership in legislative activities on behalf of musicians and artists increased significantly. The AFM found itself being sought out for interviews by newspaper journalists, radio personalities, and Mr. Lee was personally called upon by congressional leaders to provide expert testimony or otherwise participate in fashioning legislative programs favorable to musicians.

In efforts to thwart piracy of recorded works, Mr. Lee joined other CEOs in the entertainment industry and approached the Attorney General of New York, various congressional committees and governmental department heads involved in U.S. Trade matters urging them to stop the illegal theft of recordings which were copyright protected. Mr. Lee called for a boycott of Delta Airlines when the airline would not allow musicians to bring instruments in the cabin as carry-on baggage, and he assisted in the modification of legislation that forced the airlines to allow musical instruments to be carried in the overhead compartments.

Under the leadership of Mr. Lee, the AFM became a strong proponent of performers’ rights and copyright protection for recordings by U.S. performers here and abroad, and worked to ensure that the Digital Performance Right in Sound Recordings Act of 1995 included provisions requiring that the revenue from the new digital performance right would be shared with performers. He played a leading role in protecting performers’ interests in the digital world, including participating on behalf of performers in the Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel (CARP) proceedings that set the non-interactive digital payment rate to artists, and by participating with other artist organizations in the negotiations to incorporate SoundExchange as an independent organization jointly (and equally) controlled by artist and recording company representatives.

Mr. Lee has furthered the interests of musicians by serving on the governing boards of SoundExchange (an intellectual rights distribution fund for artists and copyright owners), the Alliance of Artists and Recording Companies (AARC), the Union Label and Trade Services Department of the AFL-CIO (2nd Vice President), the Smithsonian Institution’s Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM) committee, American Income Life (honorary advisor), the AFM-AFTRA Fund (an intellectual property rights distribution fund) and co-chaired the American Federation of Musicians Employer’s Pension Fund (AFM-EP Fund).

Mr. Lee was also honored to be elected as a Vice President of the International Federation of Musicians (FIM), which is a union made up of elected musician union representatives from seventy-five different countries around the world headquartered in Paris, France. In this capacity he traveled to Europe and South Africa several times a year and helped organize the first world wide conference of symphony musicians in 2008. And due to Lee’s increased activity with the AFL-CIO he was elected Chairman of the Department of Professional Employees, a division within the AFL-CIO which consists of 20 white collar unions including the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the American Federation of Radio and Television Artists (AFTRA), the Actors’ Equity (AE), the International Association of Theatrical and Service Employees (IATSE), and the Screen Actors’ Guild (SAG).

Mr. Lee actively sought out the participation of the labor community in support of musicians and worked with the AFL-CIO President, representatives of the NAACP and the A. Philip Randolph Institute in addition to other unions of the AFL-CIO, to ensure that Performance Rights was viewed by the labor community as a workers’ rights issue that affects all working people. Mr. Lee participated in the creation and coordination of entertainment industry CEOs that met twice yearly to address issues that were common to all entertainment industry organizations. During Mr. Lee’s tenure, the Federation began its extensive utilization of Facebook, Myspace and Twitter, which successfully made the Federation’s services and good work accessible to all social network participants.

In 1990 Mr. Lee was elected to the position of Secretary-Treasurer of Local 161-710 in Washington, DC and in 1991 he was elected to the AFM’s International Executive Board (IEB) – a position he held until his election to the position of International Vice President in 1995. In 1999 he was elected to the position of International Secretary-Treasurer of the AFM.

As a member of the IEB, Mr. Lee used his extensive background and experience as Secretary-Treasurer of AFM Local 161-710, Washington, DC to actively promote the union’s legislative agenda while serving as Chair of the IEB’s TEMPO-PCC/Legislative Committee. He has represented the interests of AFM members on such issues as Live-PALRA, NEA funding, copyright reform and performance rights, among others, and chaired the Board committee dealing with legislative and political contributions. As Chair of the Board’s Benefits and Services Committee, Mr. Lee also championed the expansion of member benefit programs including musical instrument insurance and the AFL-CIO’s Union Privilege benefit packages.

In 1999, he was elected as International Secretary-Treasurer on March 13 by the IEB to fill the vacated position on an interim basis. The Delegates at the July 1999 convention then elected Mr. Lee by acclamation to an additional 2-year term as International Secretary-Treasurer. In less than a year he streamlined the financial operations of the Federation, completed a new design of the union’s monthly newsletter, implemented a new employee medical policy that saved the Federation more than $300,000 annually, and implemented i cost saving measures by utilizing a more efficient use of existing office space.

As a working musician, Mr. Lee served 24 years on active military duty as a pianist with “The President’s Own” Marine Band, frequently performing two or three times a week at White House functions. He served six consecutive Presidential Administrations in this capacity, beginning with the Johnson administration and ending mid-term during the Bush administration. His duties during this time included providing music on a regular basis at the White House, to members of Congress, members of the Supreme Court, cabinet officials and other high ranking government and military officials in Washington, DC. His instrument was piano and he often performed on the 9 foot Steinway Grand in the White House at receptions, dinners, press conferences, meetings and played the organ for the Nixon church services that were held in the White House. He was frequently called upon to perform for guests of the White House on the Sequoia, the Presidential Yacht. During this period he performed either alone or as the leader of small groups or combos. He was frequently called upon to play in the private quarters of the White House where the first family often entertained their guests.

While on active duty with the Marine Band, Mr. Lee played a major role in a lobbying effort that lifted a 70-year restriction that prohibited military musicians from performing “off base” for money – a restriction that did not apply to other military personnel. After retiring from the Marine Band in 1990, he continued to perform in the Washington, D.C. area until his election as AFM Secretary-Treasurer of the Washington branch of the AFM.

Mr. Lee was first elected to the Executive Board of Local 161-710 in 1980 and was elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Local in 1990. As a Local Officer he devoted himself to effectively resolving member problems and updating office procedures for greater efficiency. He also negotiated for and offered assistance to members of the National Symphony, the Kennedy Center Orchestra, National Theater Orchestra, Washington Ballet Orchestra, the Wolf Trap Performing Arts orchestra among other Local bargaining units.

Mr. Lee’s careers as a performing musician in the Marine Band, President of the AFM (an organization of 90,000 musicians) and his representation of the interests of musicians worldwide were greatly enhanced by his studies at Berklee College of Music, the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the George Washington School of Business.

Mr. Lee is the only individual to hold all four elected positions in the AFM International Executive Board, International Vice President of the United States and Canada, International Secretary-Treasurer, and International President in the 114 year history of the AFM. In recognition of his 19 years of excellent service on behalf of the Federation and its members, the delegates to the 2010 AFM convention bestowed the honor of AFM International President, Emeritus on Mr. Lee.(…back)

Gary Malkin

Award winning composer/producer Gary Malkin has composed hundreds of scores for feature films, television shows, national commercials, and recordings since 1979. Formerly the founder of the leading San Francisco Bay Area music production companies known as Music Design and then Remal Music Group, Malkin is now the principal composer of MUSAIC, a production company specializing in creating original musical solutions for all media applications including video games and web environments. With multiple Emmy, ASCAP and CLIO awards to his credit, Gary is dedicated to making a difference in the world by creating musical resources and experiences that inspire the heart and catalyze social healing.

In addition to scoring a remarkable 14 seasons of NBC’s Unsolved Mysteries, Malkin has composed for many movies of the week, documentaries and other projects for networks such as HBO, ABC, NBC, CBS and PBS. He has created scores for independent features such as Maria’s Lovers, (MGM), Breakin’, (MGM), Thousand Pieces of Gold, (American Playhouse) starring Kieth Carradine and Robert Mitchum as well as Ricochet River, starring Kate Hudson.

After a personal tragedy in 1998, he chose to dedicate himself to musical projects that could make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Ken Miller

Ken Miller has a long and stellar history in the television and motion picture industry. Ken is best known as one of the key people that ran Spelling Television for 27 years with the late legendary Producer Aaron Spelling. He was instrumental in the success of some of televisions longest running series including, Beverly Hills 90210, and 7th Heaven, (shows that helped launch Fox and the WB) Charmed, Melrose Place, and many more, and for 8 years was the producer of Beverly Hills 90210.

Ken has executive produced 12 Soundtrack Albums (multiple gold and platinum selling). He has a comprehensive knowledge of music licensing, publishing, talent acquisition, record soundtrack negotiation and royalty administration.

Ken Miller is currently the owner of “Full Slate Media”, a literary development company, (reality, scripted 1-hour programs, and features). He also works with the development departments at major networks in drama, reality and MOWs CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, HBO, Showtime, Lifetime, Starz, USA, Syfy, AMC, A&E, History Channel, Nat Geo, Spike, TLC, Discovery, OWN, etc. His longstanding business relationships provide him access to Senior Executives at the Networks, and Major Studios for feature films.

Ken has been involved in over 2,000 hours of executed story and production including, television series, documentaries, movies of the week, pilots, mini series, soap operas, feature films, and trailers.

David Paich

David is one of the most prolific songwriters of the 1970s and 1980s. Amongst some others, he wrote “Hold the Line” and “Georgy Porgy” in the 1970s, “Rosanna” and “99” in the 1980s, actually most of Toto’s hits over the years, as well as several 1970s hits by pop artists, such as Cheryl Lynn‘s hit “Got To Be Real” and George Benson‘s “Lady Love Me (One More Time)“.

David co-wrote the 1982 hit, “Africa“, along with Toto’s drummer Jeff Porcaro. David also sang lead vocals on the song. On the 1988 Toto album, The Seventh One, he (co-)wrote 9 out of 11 songs. Those included “Pamela“, “Stop Loving You“, and “Mushanga“, which became hits in some parts of Europe and in Japan.

Paich remained with Toto up until their disbandment in 2008 but he did not tour extensively with the band in their last few years. Session keyboardist Greg Phillinganes joined Toto in 2004 as an additional keyboardist for both studio projects and tour dates.

He has co-writing credits with Boz Scaggs on the songs “What Can I Say“, “Lowdown“, “Lido Shuffle” from the multi-platinum album Silk Degrees, and occasionally still sits in on keyboards with Boz Scaggs‘ band. As songwriter he wrote or co-wrote songs for Cher, Jacksons, Andy Williams, George Benson, Jon Anderson (Yes) and Chicago. As arranger he worked for Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Patti Austin, Donna Summer, and many more.

In the early and mid ’80s, Paich often worked with well-known producers Quincy Jones and David Foster. David was a part of the session group on the Michael Jackson album Thriller. He played piano, synthesizer, and did some synth and rhythm arrangements.

In 1989 David produced and arranged the Oscar-nominated song “The Girl Who Used To Be Me“, written by Marvin Hamlisch and Alan & Marilyn Bergman, for the “Shirley Valentine” film.

As a session musician David has played on numerous soundtracks and on albums by many artists, including Elkie Brooks‘ album Rich Man’s Woman; Bryan Adams‘ song “Please Forgive Me“; Michael Jackson songs “Earth Song“, “The Girl Is Mine“, “Heal The World“, “Stranger In Moscow“, and “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You“; and the USA for Africa song “We Are the World“. The list continues with artists such as Aretha Franklin, Boz Scaggs, Quincy Jones, Don Henley, Steely Dan, Elton John, Joe Cocker, Pink, and many, many more.

David traveled to China where he worked composing theme music for the 2008 Summer Olympics. In 2009, he sang the hit song “Africa” at the Millennium Development Goals awards in New York and co-produced a new tune for George Benson. Paich was involved with the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards as a music producer and keyboardist for the on-stage band.

In October 2009, David Paich was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame along with the other members of Toto.

Drew Pearson

Drew Pearson has built an extensive track record in the music, media, and entertainment business. It was his passion for music at a young age, playing in several bands, which sparked his early interest in the music business. After a tragic accident, he was forced to put down the drum sticks and pick up degrees in Marketing and Business Administration to pursue a career in the music business.

In 2005, Drew developed and launched 50 Entertainment and 50 Records, a full service record label and creative media shop, in partnership with Sony Music NYC and RED Distribution. The goal of 50 Records was to empower independent artists, create a healthy partnership ecosystem, and build a platform to allow artists to excel from. It was Drew’s personal opinion that so many talented, hard working, and deserving artists were going unnoticed.

Beyond serving as the Founder and President of 50 Entertainment, Drew currently serves as the Director of Marketing & Business at HAM in the fridge agency working with such clients as Harry Potter, Target, Nickelodeon, TBS, TNT, Kodak, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Paramount, Minnesota Public Radio, Universal Music Group, Beggars Banquet, Warner Bros, and the BBC Network.

Garry Schyman

Evocative motifs, epic themes, aleatoric dissonance or apocalyptic intensity: composer Garry Schyman explores a stunning spectrum of sonic possibilities. The creator of music for the multiple award-winning video game BioShock – winner of Best Original Score from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, Spike TV’s Video Games Best Score Award, G4 Television’s Soundtrack of the Year and four awards from the Game Audio Network Guild (G.A.N.G) including Music of the Year, Best Interactive Score, Best Original Instrumental and Audio of the Year– he has emerged as one of the medium’s foremost composers.

A composer whose work spans feature films, prime time television series, mini-series, movies of the week, video games and documentaries, Garry studied composition at the University of Southern California and later, privately with the renowned composer George Tremblay. Just out of the university he was then employed by the legendary Mike Post and Pete Carpenter organization where he worked on the team’s roster of top rated series.

Known for his rich, sometimes complex, orchestral scores – Garry took an unexpected detour for a song. Over 26 million viewers have experienced “Praan,” written for Matt Harding’s YouTube mega-hit “Where the Hell is Matt” (Dancing 2008). With lyrics adapted from the poem “Stream of Life,” a part of the Gitanjali by Asia’s first Nobel laureate, Rabindranath Tagore, this intoxicating global melody has become a worldwide phenomenon. It has sold over 200,000 digital copies without the help of a label.

Garry believes that a command of multiple styles is an essential attribute for a composer. “Many styles are about hiring great players who can nail it. It’s the more classically oriented orchestral music that requires the depth of experience. You can’t fake that.” Taking direction, Schyman says, is also crucial within a creative environment. “Some of my best cues have been written after my first draft was submitted and changes were requested. Sometimes they ask you to go left, and then they rethink it and want to go right. One of the most successful cues for BioShock was first envisioned as being really frightening, but was ultimately transformed into being more emotionally ambivalent – permitting the player to imagine what awaits them rather than telling them. It is now one of the most recognized pieces of music for that proje ct. Reworking a cue might give it a new and surprising direction and I love exploring that.”

The scores for Garry’s projects are recorded in the world’s preeminent studios giving Garry an opportunity to conduct some of the best musicians in the world: BioShock was tracked with a live orchestra at the legendary Capitol Studios in Hollywood, and for Dante’s Inferno, he traveled to London to record with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the fabled Abby Road Studios.

Garry Schyman is a composer whose career trajectory can be attributed to his artistry, instincts and aptitude. Tom Silverman

In 1981 Tom Silverman founded the record label Tommy Boy Records, which he continues to run as CEO and chairman. He also co-founded Tommy Boy Films which is a television and independent film company.

His tremendously successful record label has earned gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums by such artists as Everlast, Queen Latifah, Coolio, Naughty By Nature, Club Nouveau, De La Soul, Digital Underground, and House of Pain, and has been Billboard Magazine’s number one dance label for six years in a row.

In addition to unique artists and great records, Silverman’s innovative ideas about packaging, marketing and distribution of music helped separate Tommy Boy from the pack.

In 1980, Silverman and his partners (Joel Webber and Marc Josephson) created the original New Music Seminar as a new kind of grassroots music industry gathering for disenfranchised music business upstarts. From humble beginnings, New Music Seminar became the biggest and most important convention in the music industry; its combination of panels, workshops and live showcases became the model for CMJ, Canadian Music Week, Winter Music Conference and SXSW, among other followers.

Silverman is a founding member of the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) and Merlin Network; sits on the board of Sound Exchange, the RIAA and We Are Family Foundation and has served on the boards of NARM, NAIRD, AFIM, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Dance Music Hall of Fame. He also co-founded Dance Music Report magazine.

David Stern

David has over 20 years of professional experience in the music business and as a youth, earned a reputation as a talented Artist while gaining a regional buzz and following in Southern California. He wrote, performed and recorded primarily urban/hip-hop music as well as playing in various local rock bands. While a student, he promoted and booked live talent at USC for local and regional acts, many went on to sign with major labels. Upon graduation from USC with a music business degree, David played a role in the signing and development of major recording Artists like T.I., Trey Songz, Paramore, Juvenile, Apathy, Trick Daddy, Twista and P.O.D.

David worked for Atlantic Records in Urban and Modern Rock A&R, at Capitol Records and Capitol Recording Studio as well as heading an indie label A&R staff that was able to place albums in major record chain stores before the advent of indie distribution deals and online distribution. Back when Warehouse and Tower were king. David was involved In the major reissue of numerous back catalog projects for Capitol with Artists like Dean Martin, Ringo Starr, The Beach Boys, etc and as an independent Producer and Manager was able to accomplish major radio play, regional and national tours, award show nominations and tens of thousands of downloads and album sales. He effectively licensed songs on major hit TV shows that include; 90210, FOX Sports, Entourage, and many more.

Throughout David’s career he has been mentored, advised, and guided by many luminaries and titans in the music industry including; Ed Holland of Holland Dozier Holland, 20 time Grammy winning engineer and producer Al Schmitt, Legendary record producer Richard Perry, renown record executive Lenny Waronker, legendary TV composer Dan Foliart, country music star Dwight Yoakam and more.
